Pre Healthcare Careers Discovery Program

Building on success of the Healthcare Careers Discovery Program, high school students will have the opportunity to spend spring break in the wonderful world of medicine in an immersive simulation experience. The 3 day program provides students a broad introduction to the field of medicine, engage in hands-on learning activities and explorations of the various career possibilities in healthcare.

Enrolling in the mini spring break Pre Healthcare Careers Discovery Program will give you the opportunity to:

  • Participate in hands-on learning activities
  • Learning from faculty members, medical and other healthcare professionals
  • Learn skills needed for a future career in healthcare
  • Work as a team to diagnose and treat patients in a true-to-life emergency scenario

High school - Healthcare Careers Discovery Program

The Healthcare Careers Discovery Program offers an innovative, simulation-based approach for high school students aspiring to a career in the evolving field of healthcare. The active learning environment includes a combination of classroom and simulation learning experiences to introduce the student to various clinical professions and skills. American Heart Association CPR/AED and First Aid Certification are included.

ADVANCED Healthcare Careers Discovery Program

Returning students are matched with providers in their field of interest to observe these professionals. Roundtable discussions and presentations allow participants to share their knowledge. Simulated patient encounters require the students to respond to emergent situations and promote teamwork. New skills are introduced with hands-on demonstrations, including a special suturing workshop. As a take-away from the program, each participant records a professionally produced, personalized scholarship video showcasing his/her participation in the program and projecting his/her future potential in health care.

IV Insertion Workshop

Participants practice the skills required to safely and effectively insert and maintain peripheral intravenous therapies. An IV Insertion Workshop certificate of completion will be awarded after successful completion of the course.

Safe Sitter® A Curriculum for Young Teens

Safe Sitter is a class designed to prepare students in grades 6-8 to be safe when they’re home alone, watching younger siblings, or babysitting.

The instructor-led class is filled with fun games and role-playing exercisers. Students even get to use manikins to practice rescue skills like choking rescue!

Safe Sitter® Essentials with CPR: a 6 ½ hour course that covers all of the course content in Safe Sitter® Essentials, with an additional hour of CPR instruction and manikin practice.

Medical and Nursing Students

The Institute for Simulation Learning offers an ideal environment for medical, nursing and other allied health students to practice skills and techniques in a controlled, safe environment. We welcome agreements with educational institutions that desire to use our facilities and simulation services.

Medical, nursing, allied health and paramedic students are encouraged to attend any of our scheduled simulation training courses. Reduced fees may be available.

Sneak a peek at our Nursing Skills Enhancement Course that is designed to provide a hands-on experience in a realistic setting designed to enhance confidence for those preparing to resume clinical practice in a safe, competent and confident manner.

The Center offers a full complement of courses and certifications including CPR, AED, First Aid, Basic Life Support (BLS), Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS).
